Prometec has developed treatment lines specifically designed for the physical whitening of natural stone.
Applied to marbles and light-toned or veined stones, this process lightens the background color of the material, increasing its aesthetic and commercial value.
The principle
The treatment is based on controlled temperature management:
- thermal energy is transferred to the stone, raising the temperature of its crystals;
- the crystal lattice structure is modified;
- the result is a lighter and brighter appearance, with greater reflection of white light.
The effect is permanent and particularly effective on calcitic materials.
The challenges
Although the principle is simple, the application requires expertise:
- higher temperatures can increase the material’s absorption index;
- the heterogeneous nature of natural stone may cause uneven thermal dilations, leading to internal stress and potential breakage.
This is why the thermal curve must be precisely managed and adapted to each material type.
