SCROLL
The New Frontier of Resin Treatment with the Archimedes Chamber

Prometec, a leading company in the design of technological solutions for the stone industry, presents ARCHI LINE, a patented technology that marks a real turning point in the processing of natural stone slabs.
At the heart of this innovation lies the Archimedes Chamber, integrated into a fully automated plant designed to perform all treatment phases in-line: netting, overturning, pre-grinding, resin treatment, and polishing.

From Field Experience to Industrial Revolution

ARCHI LINE was born from direct experience with a real, operational plant developed to work with reactive Epoxy resins, specifically from the UV-curing family.

The initial goal was ambitious: to make effective treatment possible even for low-cost materials that, due to budget constraints, cannot sustain the time, logistics, and long cycles typical of traditional epoxy resin treatments.

These materials, often just polished and retouched after the polishing machine, entered the market with aesthetic and functional quality that did not meet expectations.

Prometec developed a fast, effective, and in-line integrable treatment capable of significantly raising the final product’s quality without materially increasing production costs.

An additional achievement was the elimination of the halo effect—a typical issue in light and/or porous marbles (such as those from the Apuan region), where traditional resins penetrate deeply and often cause oil-like stains around the repaired fractures.

New reactive epoxy resins, on the other hand, thanks to their fast initial crystallization, drastically reduce this effect, preserving the chromatic uniformity of the slab.

A first industrial plant already operating with this technology has shown excellent results: continuous production of 90 m²/h on two shifts, with superior quality performance compared to traditional lines.

From Targeted Application to Global Vision

After achieving these goals, Prometec took a step further: how to extend this new technology to all other structurally flawed materials — those with deep fractures or micro-cracks — which require effective and stable reinforcement? The key question was: How to quickly convey these reactive resins—crystallizing in just a few seconds—into the deep fractures of the slab?

A mechanism was needed to force the resin into the material’s internal structure in a very short time, before crystallization began and without affecting the reaction by altering the temperature.

This reflection led to the concept of the Archimedes Chamber: a pressurization chamber integrated into the plant’s continuous flow, which mechanically pushes the resin into the fractures and pores of the stone, ensuring complete penetration and optimal adhesion.

A New Physical Variable: Positive Pressure

Traditionally, to promote resin penetration, production cycles rely on physical variables like time, heat, or negative pressure (vacuum).

With ARCHI LINE, Prometec introduces an entirely new approach: the use of positive pressure as the main driver for resin application.

In just a few minutes inside the Archimedes Chamber, the resin is mechanically forced into the flaws, delivering excellent structural results even on materials notoriously difficult to treat.

Although the currently operational plant uses UV-activated resins, the principle is applicable to other types of resin and different curing systems.

From Raw Slab to Finished Product: A Continuous, Integrated, Automated Cycle

The combination of in-line reactive resins and positive pressure enabled Prometec to create a unique production line: the raw slab enters and, without interruptions or intermediate steps, comes out fully finished and ready for sale.

In a single continuous and controlled cycle, the slab undergoes:

  • Backside netting
  • Overturning
  • Pre-grinding
  • Resin treatment under positive pressure
  • Final polishing

All of this occurs without manual handling, intermediate storage, or line stoppages.

Maximum Penetration, Minimal Halo Effect: The Winning Formula

Thanks to the synergy between reactive epoxy resins and the Archimedes Chamber, Prometec has developed a process that delivers:

  • Maximum quality in defect repair
  • High aesthetic uniformity with minimal halo effect
  • Optimized production cycle

Even on light and/or highly absorbent marbles, the result
is a structurally solid, visually homogeneous slab, ready
for the market.

A New Paradigm for the Stone Industry

With ARCHI LINE, Prometec is not simply launching a new machine—it is defining a new production paradigm:

a continuous, controlled process that combines the mechanical force of pressure with the effectiveness of advanced resins, drastically reducing imperfections and maximizing the slab’s final value.

A true industrial revolution at the heart of natural stone processing.
