SCROLL

AGV / Intelligent Logistics

Prometec is currently the company in the Stone Industry that has most extensively integrated intelligent logistics technologies into the design and construction of machinery for primary stone processing.
Over the years, we have designed and implemented numerous applications—now several dozen—in which overhead cranes are no longer used. This eliminates suspended loads, which are among the main sources of workplace accidents in our sector, and significantly reduces the risk of slab breakage during handling.
The adoption of intelligent systems also avoids the need for extensive civil works such as pits, rails or other intrusive structures inside industrial buildings:

  • no excavations for transfer trolleys,
  • strong reduction of excavation for rotating platforms
  • no rail-mounted motorized carriers.

Although these systems are generally safer than overhead cranes, they still introduce tripping and falling hazards in areas where operators and machines work in close proximity. Intelligent logistics systems effectively remove these risks.

Two Modes, One System Architecture

Prometec’s intelligent logistics solutions are based on two main families:

  • 1. Autonomous guided vehicles (AGV/AMR)
  • 2. Manually operated vehicles (HDV)

From an engineering perspective, the main difference lies in the presence or absence of an onboard operator. Structurally, the layout of the plant remains almost identical.
This means that a factory designed with intelligent logistics in mind can switch from manual to autonomous guidance (and vice versa) at any time.
Many of our integrated systems actually combine both modes to ensure greater fault tolerance and overall robustness.

Experience, Integration, Consultancy

We have worked with major global players and integrated a variety of guidance and propulsion technologies.
Thanks to this extensive experience, Prometec is now often involved not only as a system integrator but also as a consultant in the design of new factories, where intelligent logistics solutions are only recently becoming a standard.

Lower Costs Than Expected
Although these systems may appear expensive at first glance—and to some extent they are—when correctly sized and aligned with the actual productivity of the plant, they ultimately prove to be more cost-effective than many traditional solutions still widely used in the sector.
